Dr. Kennedy will be joining AMC’s veterinary team beginning Thursday, January 10th. She will be available for appointments and surgeries. We are grateful to have Dr. Kennedy working alongside our other doctors, Dr. Thompson and Dr. Madsen, and can’t wait for everyone to meet her.
Fun Fact: Dr. Kat Kennedy grew up in El Paso, TX and wanted to be a cat when she was little! Once she realized that wasn’t possible, she settled on being a veterinarian instead.
Taking a gap year before college, Kat studied abroad in Costa Rica with the American Field Service. Upon returning to the U.S., she attended Warren Wilson College in Asheville, NC for her undergraduate studies. In addition to her standard course work, she raised cattle, chickens, and pigs on the college farm where she completed a study on iron levels in piglets for her senior research seminar. She graduated with a BS in Biology, with honors. She was accepted to Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine the following year where she tracked mixed animal medicine.
During her studies, Dr. Kennedy made international veterinary work a focus during breaks in semesters. She has served in spay/neuter/vaccine clinics in rural Honduras, Costa Rica, and Panama. She has also spent time as an extern on the northern coast of Spain and displays some fluency in the language. She plans to continue future service work in Latin America.
Dr. Kennedy moves here from Texas where she worked as a small animal emergency and general practitioner. After taking a 6-month sabbatical to travel around the western United States in her self-built camper van, with her favorite dog and co-pilot, “Penny Lane,” Dr. Kennedy has fallen in love with Woodland Park. By making her new home here, she will pursue her hobbies of backpacking, climbing, aerial skills, and exploring the beautiful outdoors.
